Forests Deserts Jesus. We went to the forests and were talking for some reason about Jesus and The Holy Spirit and God. I remember the snow and ice and watching the barren trees still and silent below as we were on a summit. I said he went to the desert for forty days and nights and the devil tried to mess with him but he could not be swayed, not be turned from his mission and destiny. I looked again at the trees and the area, the grey sky seeming to come down right from where skies usually live and go around the trees and on top of the snow. Something above, coming down, meshing, meeting, melting even. Soon it was time to move on and we left that summit and followed the small and hidden path, walking our walk but talking our talk like some kind of modern Essenes, seekers, renunciates, not too far from petrol stations, highways, lights, and many worldly things besides.
Pack yourself a toothbrush dear
Pack yourself a favorite blouse
Take a withdrawal slip
Take all of your savings out
'Cause if we don't leave this town
We might never make it out
I was not born to drown
Baby come on
