Swimming with the sharks in Exuma... can check that off the bucket list ✅😍🦈 .
Exuma has been so dreamy so far. I have never seen such beautiful water and incredible beaches, with almost no one in sight. This is paradise 😍 shout out to @sugaradventurecompany for getting us to this amazing spot.
Help @Nakaweproject#abreakformakos#Repost from @nakaweproject. We are calling on you today to help us convince all governments & citizens to include makos in Appendix II of the PROPOSAL at this year’s world CITES conference in Sri Lanka.
Appendix II regulates importation and exportation of included species not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival.
According to the 2017 stock assessment (pages 215 through 244), shortfin mako sharks are overfished and subject to overfishing. With help from donations like yours, we have been testing shark DNA from local markets in Mexico labeled “Cazón.” Unfortunately the majority of cathone is actually Mako and a call-to-action is needed now.
The shortfin mako is the world's fastest shark, and is sought after for its meat, fins, and sport fishing. .
It is our goal is to give YOU the opportunity to interact with the beautiful mako shark alive. Stay tuned to find out about a “Break for Makos” expeditions where we will work with local fishermen and ecotourism platforms to show you sharks are worth more alive and collect valuable data to ensure the longevity of this species.
Our aim is to bring attention to the plight of Mako Sharks; an IUCN vulnerable species that is widely caught by comercial vessels both as bycatch and in targeted fisheries and targeted by sport-fishers, and it is our hope through The PROPOSAL to include all populations of mako shark in Appendix II.
Our planet is at a breaking point, but it’s not too late to save it. Join us now!

It is a bamboo cat shark in an egg! Otherwise known commonly as a mermaids purse!
