I got some kumquats in my @mamaearthorganics basket this week and instantly fell in love. They're tart and sweet and citrusy, and you don't have to peel them! So what do you do with cherry tomato shaped oranges? Make salsa, obviously.
Kumquat salsa is spicy and sweet and tastes...bright 🌞
To make this deliciousness slice up some kumquat, red pepper, and tomato. Toss it with olive oil, lime juice, cumin, coriander, cilantro and lots of red pepper flakes because the mix of spice and citrus is where the magic happens!
Put it in eggs, in a taco, scoop it up with some chips, or eat it right out of the bowl 😋

You have the time and the money to do whatever it is you want to do- you’re just spending it differently. You have the ability to develop the discipline you need to push for your goals- you’re just well, lazy. And I can say that because I was the worlds laziest person and the queen of excuses. .
And don’t get me wrong- it won’t change overnight. It takes time. And you will mess up. But one day you find out that you’re stronger than you’ve ever imagined. And you realize how good you feel and you realize that you aren’t sick every month. .
One day you realize that you’re the happiest you’ve ever been. And that your workouts are now a form of therapy instead of punishment. One day you realize it’s all worth it. And that investing in your health is so important. .
The point is- whatever you want to do, do it. Set your intentions and keep fighting for your goals. Your body is more than capable, it’s your mind you have to convince. 👊🏼✨
I had a bee in my bonnet on Saturday morning. I decided I couldn’t sleep anymore because I needed to make some flowers. But not just any flowers... I needed to put some abortifacients onto a sweatshirt. So far I’ve got tansy, pennyroyal, mugwort, wormwood, and Queen Anne’s lace. I’m going to add rosemary and rue to the lineup tomorrow. This is all being done in between reviewing my Paleopathology notes because review makes me anxious, and I need a way to decompress.
The sweatshirt will say “femme ain’t frail” underneath because certain ladies (ahem @lofiluna ) have the sweater I once owned that said it, and I think the saying is fitting. These flowers look innocuous, but boy can they all cause some damage. Women have always known how to take care of ourselves. This arm might look “fit-ish” to you. Maybe a little flabby with a little muscle, but to me this is strength. This is weeks and months of consistency. Nancy has been working with us for a couple months now to rehabilitate and get stronger after a hip replacement, under the coaching of @jackie_andrews. She has been diligent and hard working since she started in late December, and it really shows. Yesterday, she hit a 100 lb deadlift for 3x3. We are so proud of you, Nancy! Among all the other sadness of this weekend.. one girl went out on a hen. She kissed her babbies goodbye and told them she would tuck them in tomorrow.. that daddy would do it tonight.
She went out with her mates .. with giggles and bubbles.. and then she was gone.

Like Annie, most women in America wear a size greater than size 16 yet retailers have long relegated a huge chunk of the female population to a limited catalog of shapeless, neutral, matronly clothes...and made them feel like 💩 by hiding these collections on websites, not carrying sizes in stores, carrying a fraction of the selection, etc. All women want and deserve to feel confident in their clothes. And money talks. I am so excited to see more fashionable women on TV rocking their curves and hope to see more retailers carry more sizes in stores and embrace a greater degree of inclusivity. It’s the right thing to do and just smart business. You are not less than because you are more than a 14.

🌟 Meet our MindBody Transformation Challenge Winner: Adriana! 💗💜 @adrlopesp
Adriana came to @cfdesplaines for the day of the Nutrition 101 Seminar despite the winter storm in order to learn some information about eating for a healthier lifestyle for her, her husband and her two boys.
With the family growing, and Adriana being able to spend more time with the boys at home to both prepare nutritious meals for her own goals, but also for the family to enjoy, she thought it was perfect timing to get started. . Adriana's engagement in the challenge was very consistent. 💪 She checked in with Coach Cheryl each week, began getting some workouts in at the gym she joined, as well as feeling energized, motivated and satisfied from her daily efforts in making better food choices on a daily basis. 🍎
Her progress photos also showed a significant body composition change in just 5 weeks. She's had a great start to the beginning of her new lifestyle change. . ✨Throughout the challenge, Adriana's goal was to lose some weight, and to feel more energized, and set a good example for her kids. In the 5 weeks, Adriana:
* Dropped 7.6 pounds on the scale
* Decreased body fat mass by 10.3 pounds
* Decreased body fat percentage by 4.3%
* Increased lean body mass by 2.4 pounds
✨Her progress over the 5 weeks has shown her determination to live out a re-purposed vision for her fitness goals to be the best self, wife, and mom she can.

So you want to live a healthier lifestyle, but you don’t know where to start…
Last night I ran a poll & the majority of you said that you wanted to make changes, but didn’t know where to start, so let’s taco🌮 bout it…
First things first, are you Person A or Person B?
👉🏼 Person A: No nutrition protocol whatsoever - your life is filled with processed “junk” food & you have zero knowledge about nutrition, but you’re tired of feeling like shit and ready to make a change.
👉🏼 Person B: You feel like you’ve tried everything when it comes to nutrition, you make mostly healthy choices, but still can’t seem to make progress.
If you’re PERSON A, read this:
Girl, you are going to be amazed by how good you will feel when you start filling your body with nutritious foods.
My advice to you is to start by making small changes. This week, pick one meal a day that you are going to focus on. That may simply mean packing a sandwich, an apple, and a yogurt instead of hitting the drive thru for lunch.
This week, focus on that one meal. Next week, focus on adding one healthy snack to your day, and pairing it with a glass of water (maybe even add some flavoring to your water if you have to force it down!)
Overall, I want you to focus on making one small change each week to build a healthier lifestyle for yourself and stop feeling like 💩
If you’re PERSON B, read this:
Alright girl, you’ve got some of the basics down. You know what you NEED to do, but you just can’t seem to find what truly works for you. And if you think “nothing works for you,” I can confidently tell you that you are wrong - you’re either not doing the right thing, or maybe you just need to be more patient!
So for you, I’d suggest one of two things:
1)Track everything you eat and drink for the next week.
Are you really being as healthy as you think you are? Is your morning coffee throwing you way overboard on your macros for the day? Or are you not eating enough to properly fuel your body?
2)Seek help from the outside.
If you’re not making progress, maybe there’s something you’re missing; maybe there’s something you’re doing wrong. (cont. in comments👇🏼)
How am I “preparing” for summer ?🌞👙
I’m not looking to do a drastic cut this year in preparation for summer and don’t plan on hopping back on the macro tracking train! 🚂 I have been LOVING intuitive eating and plan on making small changes to hopefully create a slight deficit for weight loss and here’s how! 🤗⤵️
1️⃣ Intermittent fasting- By pushing my first meal back till later in the day it gives me a smaller window of time to eat. This will allow me to have bigger meals and still maintain a caloric deficit without feeling starved! 🥘😋
2️⃣ Being mindful 🧠- Being mindful of portion size, steering clear of mindless eating, and simply picking healthier options can go a long way! 🥗
3️⃣ Cardio - Adding in a little bit of cardio to my training sessions will also help make a dent in a deficit. 🏃🏽♀️ Remember cardio is just a tool to help you along the way and isn’t necessarily a necessity if your diet is on point! ❤️

My home yoga practice, over the past several months, has been the most consistent since I started teaching(no I’m really not all that’s perfect), and yet from insta I don’t think you would know that. I don’t post so much about my personal practice, progress, goals or victories anymore.
Because what I came to realise is that trying to be ‘perfect’ at yoga had become a road block. And so I made the conscious decision to separate the two. Social media was a great driver and motivator when I first began, but I actually fell in love with yoga because of how it made ME FEEL. Not because of the outside validation it could bring.
My self practice no longer felt intuitive or like self care, but instead something slightly forced. I found that even if I didn’t want my yoga to be influenced by social media, making a photo or video aesthetically pleasing meant that it would be; for instance, the time of day (good lighting) or even what I did (backbend goals). I think it felt wrong and jarring because I knew it clashed with my values and the real reason I practice. Does that make sense to you too?
I have been slowly moving away from posting as much about my practice for a couple of years now, but really feel I’ve nailed it since September when I went to @patrickbeach and @carlingnicole workshop and was reminded why I love yoga just so much.
Practicing just for me, I think, makes me an all round better teacher and human. Because it provides the space to explore me - the ideas, imperfections, strengths, weakness, the pretty, the messy - as opposed to what I think I should find. Which really isn’t the idea at all.
And so my tip? After this much longer than expected ramble? Get back to your roots. What kind of yoga do you love most? Do you like groups or being on your own? Why did you fall in love with this practice in the first place?
